At first sight Edward falls in love with Veronica. Several days later, he proposes. It is not long however, before Edward realizes that his fianc‚e suffers from several phobias. These cause him concern. He breaks the engagement. Veronica, humiliated and rejected, becomes victim to haunting visions of lives lived in ancient times. To banish her fears, she turns to alcohol and tranquilizers. The result of this is a near-fatal automobile accident. Edward, too, begins to experience strange and disturbing nightmares. Consistently present in these dreams are Veronica, his best friend Joe, and a strange woman named Agnes Wilson.
