While on a fact-finding mission in rural China, Professor Bo Li is kidnapped by unknown enemies who are attempting to steal his formula for harnessing the power of Synchrony. Bo manages to escape from his captors and tries to flee through the woods. Several years after their father goes missing, twelve-year-old Jin Li and her twin brother Heng are swept up into a mysterious adventure that transports them from Beijing, China, to Milford, Connecticut. Together with best friends Courtney and Mark, the children try to unravel the unxplained forces of Synchrony.
