The author of the novel SOUND ON SOUND utilizes a variety of perspectives to narrate this freely reimagined fictional account of newspaper heiress Patty Hearst’s 1974 abduction and brainwashing by the Symbionese Liberation Army. The multiplicity of viewpoints explore not only the profound change Hearst (here called Alice Galton) undergoes from pampered rich girl into gun-toting revolutionary, but the unsettled cultural milieu of 1970s America that made that transformation possible and subsequently sensationalized it.
