At the start of this brooding mystery, North Yorkshire police discover the bodies of five young women who have been recently abducted and murdered. The trouble is just beginning for acting department chief Alan Banks, who finds more and more strange irregularities and inconsistencies in the evidence as he begins to try to track down the killer.
