A serial killer obsessed with mathematical logic appears to be at work in this literary mystery. The fatal smothering of an elderly woman is accompanied by a note sent to famous mathematician Arthur Seldom, suggesting a link between the murder and Seldom’s work exploring the similarities in serial killer behavior and mathematical series. Two other deaths follow, also heralded by notes, leaving Seldom and the book’s narrator, an Argentinean graduate student in mathematics, to discern the killer’s pattern before he or she strikes again.
