She credits growing up in the cotton fields of Mississippi with convincing her of the importance of getting an education and working hard to achieve her goals in life. She now practices medicine in the state of Arkansas. Her faith in God has helped her to look upon her years through the latter times of Jim Crow, Civil Rights, and then Affirmative Action as preparatory for service in His kingdom, in whatever manner He chooses to use that experience.
