Lee Kinard was the youngest announcer at WFMY TV in Greensboro, N.C., still new to the job, when the station's program director stopped him in the hallway in the fall of 1957 and asked if he'd like to do a morning show.

'Sure, ' replied Kinard, 'what do you want me to do?'
