As the capital city of Waset fill with people for the Feast of Opet, police Lieutenant Bak and his Medjay officers are distracted by the discovery of the savaged body of a Hittite horse trader. Bak has no authority in what could be a matter of Hittite politics--until similar murders occur within the sacred precinct of the Lord Amon. Bak's investigation soon embroils him in a conspiracy that soon points to Queen Hatshepsut herself.
