Annie's Song is the story of Tim Malone, a topnotch engineer and world traveler, who, (after suffering through a traumatic divorce from a slovenly nurse) meets many engineering challenges and along the way encounters many strange and interesting females on his travels even though he is loved and supported by Penny, his true love who waits for him back in New Orleans. Tim's problems start when Annie, a girl he didn't know, introduces herself to Tim and she soon becomes obsessed with him. Annie relentlessly pursues Tim until she ends up in a mental hospital, her illness she blamed on Tim and resulted from his unrequited love. She is madly in love with Tim; but he doesn't have time for her. Along the way, Annie and Tim exchange poems.
