Seventyish Marian Wright is an amateur sleuth hired by two young women eager to catch up with their no-account ex-lovers. When Wright's search ends abruptly with her sudden death on a rain-swept highway, Seattle private eye Thomas Blask has a new case on his hands. Picking up the pieces of the investigation, Black encounters an assortment of ex-cons, prostitutes, and other investigators, all tied together by a common thread. That thread ultimately reveals the chilling reason for Wright's death.
