Steve Cline has always believed his mother's husband to be his father. But after the man dies, Steve discovers that he's actually the result of an affair between his mother and a horse trainer, Christopher Kessler. When Steve confronts his true father, Kessler hires Steve to discover who's been fixing races by drugging his best horses. His task becomes more complicated when the perpetrators murder a young woman, and the crime is pinned on Steve.
