This is the story of how 16 year old Guy Myll and his girl friend, Cheryl Vann, are transformed from naive teenagers into responsible, caring young adults on their way to taking their place in a productive society. Through their experiences in coping with a hostile society of prehistoric monster-like creatures, who suddenly emerge from an underground world and try to take-over the small town in which they live, they learn how to cope with the unexpected, think on their feet, consider others, bring into use hidden talents they didn't know they had, and develop trust in a close friend.
