Anna Green was an early 20th century novelist. She was one of the first authors to write detective stories in America. Her stories are known for their well thought out plots and their legal accuracy. Although Green wrote in a genre previously dominated by men she did not think much of feminists and opposed women's suffrage. Violet Strange is a young upper class girl who assists the New York City police is crime detection. Her knowledge of the aristocracy helps the police solve these crimes. Violet appeared in several short stories and then in this novel. Nancy Drew was modeled after Violet.
